Final Notes
This week the focus was on getting the last section of notes together for February. This third section is very deceptively difficult as it involves a lot of chordal movement in a very slow and exposed way so making sure its on track is extremely important in this section. Through this rehearsal we added some phrasing in the piece that involved more time instead of dynamic phrasing, a couple of lifts or pauses here and there to try and emulate a piano player as much as possible on the marimba. These couple things added quite a lot to the piece and made it more interesting to the listener.
Performance Practice
Since JT's recital is coming up we needed to start thinking about ways to make the piece more enjoyable for an audience. Some of those things were listed above, but there was a lot of playing in front of peers and teachers to get as much feedback as possible. Most of the feedback involved balance issues which were resolved by either a change in technique or a mallet change so that we sounded more uniform. Below is this last section of February.
