Lesson
This week started off with us playing the sections that we had been working on in JT's Lesson. A lot of what we discussed in the lesson was interpreting the music as a pianist instead of percussionists which is a really hard thing to manage since a lot of articulations are more felt than heard. Most of this interpretation is going to come from making sure our mallet choice is fitting for the piece, but the rest of it will come from the weight that we put behind our strokes to get that pianist feeling behind the music.
Practice
There was a lot to work on after the things discussed in the lesson. I've spent a good amount of my practice on the weight and touch that gets put into my mallets. It has greatly improved my delicacy on the marimba and has been helping my phrasing and interpretation as well. Overall, this project has been helping my musicality and touch, there is more to come.
